Description | White glazed ceramic sculpture by the famous Belgian sculptor from Antwerp,
Albert Poels 1903-1984. Titled in dutch ‘Heropbeuring’, which refers to healing in a sanatorium “Rebuild”. The figurine is signed at the bottom with Albert Poels, see the photos. The image is in very good condition, without repairs or damage. Albert Poels ( Berchem , 7 April 1903 – Borgerhout , 23 August 1984 ) was an Antwerp sculptor , medalist and jewelery designer. He came from an artist family. Poels learned the trade from his father Jan Poels who was an ornamentist in the Statiestraat in Berchem. He studied at the academies of Berchem and Antwerp and at the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Numerous animal images are known of him, owl mirrors , figures from literature and folklore, portraits of artists (including portrait reliefs by Cyriel Verschaeve and Joris Van Severen ), saints’ statues, tombstones and monuments. In the center of Antwerp you can admire many Mary statues that adorn the facades of houses, for example on the Grote Steenweg in Berchem and on the Sint-Jansplein in Antwerp . |
